Most free PDF sites work the same way: you upload your document to their server, a machine you know nothing about does something to it, and you download the result. For a restaurant menu that's fine. For a signed contract, a medical record, a bank statement or an unpublished manuscript, it is a decision you probably wouldn't make twice if you thought about it.

Every PDF tool on this page works differently. The processing happens in JavaScript, in the tab you already have open, using your own computer's memory and processor. There is no upload step because there is nowhere to upload to — the file is opened, modified and saved back to your disk without ever crossing the network. You can watch this yourself: open your browser's network panel, run any tool below, and you'll see no request carrying your document.

The practical trade-off is that very large files depend on your own machine's memory rather than a server farm's. A 500-page scanned document will take longer on a six-year-old laptop than it would on rented hardware. In exchange, nothing is ever stored, queued, logged, or subject to somebody else's retention policy.

Are my PDF files uploaded to your server?

No. Every tool in this category runs client-side, in your browser, using the PDF-Lib and PDF.js libraries. Your file is read from your disk into your browser's memory, modified there, and written back out. No copy is transmitted to NexLove or anyone else. This is also why the tools keep working if you go offline after the page has loaded.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no limit we impose, but there is a practical one your device sets. Browsers cap how much memory a single tab may use, so very large PDFs — roughly 100MB and up, though it varies by browser and machine — can fail or run slowly. If a big file struggles, splitting it first and processing the parts usually works.

Will merging or compressing damage my PDF?

Merging copies pages between documents without re-encoding them, so text, fonts and vector graphics come through untouched. Compression is different by nature: it reduces file size by re-encoding embedded images at a lower quality, so there is a real trade-off between size and fidelity. Text and vectors are unaffected either way.

Can I unlock a PDF I don't have the password for?

No, and this is a deliberate limit rather than a missing feature. The Unlock PDF tool removes protection from documents you can already open — it will not break encryption on a file you cannot access. If you have lost the password to your own document, no tool on this site can recover it.
